Reiki is a form of energy work that was discovered in Japan in March 1922. The meaning of Reiki translates to “universal life force” describing the energy that exists inside and around all living beings and because of this, it will never cause harm. The energy knows what is most needed, where, and adjusts itself to bring the appropriate level of healing to each individual. Practitioners utilize and channel this loving energy towards beings to assist with an individual’s whole body healing.
The Law of Conservation of Energy supports this and states that energy can neither be created or destroyed, only transformed. Life force energy flows through chakras and meridians in the physical body and in the aura or energy field around the body. Over time blockages occur that disrupt the flow of energy in a being and manifest as dis-ease in the body, mind or spirit. These blocks may result from trauma as well as emotions or beliefs. It is the goal of the Reiki practitioner to transform energetic blockages into a healthier state of being that allows energy to flow more freely on all levels.
During a Reiki session, a practitioner will transmit healing energy through the hands in a specific sequence covering the chakras, glands and major organs. After a Reiki session symptoms such as stomach aches, diarrhea, headaches, or runny nose may occur. These symptoms may be the result of outside factors but can also indicate that your body is releasing stored energy blockages therefore creating a healthier and heightened state of being. You may also notice changes that occur in your life like leaving an unhealthy relationship or switching jobs to one that better matches your needs. It is important to have patience with yourself during Reiki treatments while some blocks may release quickly, others release gradually over time.
